Welcome to the studio
If I was to tell you that you could get a Grammy award-winning
artist who's like one multiple Grammys for releasing some of the most
popular albums of all time, that have appeared in movies,
like really good movies,, TV commercials, all that sort of
of stuff.
And this person has made a collection of music that you can use for free.
Then I think most people are the leap at that chance because it's pretty amazing.
And I'm currently finishing up a project here, putting
voiceovers on it, so I've been doing some voiceover
on the whoop, there it goes.

I mean, this awesome space
I am such a nerd and I love being in professional recording studios.
It still gives me this sort of sense of kind of like wonder and awe
I'm at TYX Studios in London, which
is this really cool campus with all these recording studios.
There's some very well-known people who are based here.
I don't want to name drop because it's not about that.
It's not fixing my, making sure I like it.
It's not about name dropping, but it's about, I love having access to all this stuff
I think one of my dreams as a creative person has been to work
with a composer or a musician who will
put stuff together and write music for something I'm making.
And while that's not realistic for me at the moment,, although I'm
working on it and I'm working on some of the musicians I know, I
have found a place where you can have somebody with all the credentials I just mentioned
who has made music that has appeared in movies like the Jason Bourne
movies starring Matt Damon, who's had people like
Christina Ricci appear in his own music videos
No spoilers needed then.
I'm guessing that if you are creative person and you've come across some of the stuff I'm speaking about
then you know I'm talking about

he's gone and done
just like the most amazing thing.
And I think this is gonna help so many filmmakers, so
many creators on the internet, so many creatives in so
many different fields, have really cool music for. their stuff.
So let me show you, I'm recording my screen right here and what he's actually done
is he's created this site here called Mobyratis.com, and it's definitely worth checking out.
It is such such a cool idea.
And what he's gone and done is he's actually he's made this site.
He's uploaded 500 tracks to it, and they're all three for you to use

So I started Moby Grottis simply as a way of
giving free music to independent filmmakers
and film students and nonprofits.
And now, we're relaunching
it with 500 new songs. songs.
And it's not just 500 new songs, but I'm also adding multi tracks
Okay, so you've got 500 songs that you can use and
add to your projects, and then there's multi track arrangements. as well.
So you can take apart all the individual bits of each of the songs that
he's written, and you use them in your pieces too.
And I've been through a few of the 500 things that
are in there, and I've been really impressed.
Like, there's some really cool stuff.
It's not just all electronic sounding music, although
there's a lot of that, because it is Moby and he has a very distinct
style and a very sort of distinct way he does things, which is
really cool because he has such a cool sound for video and
film and you can use this in your films and your videos
But what he allows you to do as well is basically, which
a lot of the audio sites that you can use, like audio.com,
at list.com, all of those other ones.
Oh, epidemic sound, which I've used.
I love all of them.
But one of the things that you can't do with those sites that you can
do with his music here is be creative on top of it.
You can essentially repurpose all of his tracks and remix
them into your own kind of original compositions in some way.
You can sing over the top of them, you can use you can use them
as backing tracks as a singer or something like that.
And he wants his stated goal, as he just said that.
is to sort of inspire people to be creative and support struggling artists
who can't afford a composer.
And I just think this is the most incredible thing, like props to the guy.
It is such a cool thing to do, and it's such a selfless thing to do.
And I don't think we can expect everything single artist nowadays
know, even multimillion dollar selling artists who saw
billions of albums out there and stuff, they're struggling right now.
And if you look at the recent sort of hoopla with Snoop Dogg
and Spotify, and I think I don't quote me exactly on these numbers
But he had something like 2 billion streams on Spotify
and made 47,000 US dollars from that
47,000 US dollars for two billion streams is not a huge amount of money
and artists are being shortchanged, and it's having all these knock on effects.
Like they're not being able to pay session musicians as much.
Session musicians aren't actually getting the royalties they
used to get from albums because fucking streaming giants don't pay this shit.
I'm starting to swear because I'm really passionate about this, but
It's such a crazy thing
So for Moby to do this and be so selfless is absolutely amazing.
And some of these tracks are so, so cool.

I always thought like

as like a cinematic feel.
And like, love or hate his music.

It's
evocative.
I think he's got this talent for
like, evocative, cinematic televisionesque.

I' favorite that.
I hate skipping through music.
I love giving it its time, but because I don't want you to
like have to watch me least listen to this stuff in real time.
Okay, but look, I've spent enough time sort of going through each of these tracks.
I think, like the takeaway from this is, is that Grammy Award
winning artist, Moby, has created all of these tracks that you can use.
They're on MobyGratis.com.
He's got two stipulations, basically, that you credit Moby
gratis.com, so you can't say music by Moby.
You have to credit Moby gratis.com.
And then
so that you don't use it to sell meat.
No selling meat or no selling, I think, like products
that sort of create war or anything like that.
There was a very specific sort of set of stipulations in he had with how you can use it.
But look, I think that's pretty reasonable.
He's putting this stuff out for free and he just doesn't want you to use any
of the music he's created to sell things or to
be the backing track for things that he doesn't believe in.
