what if I told you that there were two or three accessories that you could get for the osmo pocket 3 pretty much all of them for under $100 or pounds uh that would make filming yourself with it even more cinematic and potentially a higher quality feeling for anybody who watches your videos if you're interested then uh this is absolutely the video for you because I found three accessories which are absolutely incredible one two of them fit in the palm of my hand right here so the first one you're watching in action right now is this tiny little dolly SL slider that you can get off Amazon for like $30 or $40 or 30 or 40 it's made by that company Nea who seem to make all those accessories um I'm controlling it with this little remote control here that comes with it it's very cool I'll cut to a shot showing you the osmo pocket 3 sat on top of it this stuff right here in the middle I sort of added to it just to make the osmo pocket 3 um a little bit taller at there's some sort of speed settings so I'm on the slowest speed at the moment um you can control this all from the remote the direction and then like it's quite old school analog to get it to go in the right direction takes a few goes bending these legs backwards and forwards on both sides um but so you can make it go in an arc you can make it go forwards and backwards like I was there it has its pitfalls as well the tiny little wheels on it are definitely not good enough to sort of go on bumpy surfaces outdoors and things like that it's not the most sta of things even with a gimbal right on it so very very very cool but maybe limited more to indoor use realistically if you're really thinking about how you'd practically use it but nevertheless quite a fun little thing and the other two are incredibly cool little clipon lenses and filters uh that change how the camera Works uh the one I'm most excited about and I want to run out and try right now is this one here I'm going to talk about this in a second it's an anamorphic lens and this one here it's very standard lots of people on YouTube talk about these for all sorts of different cameras it's a variable ND filter which basically makes the exposure darker um so that the osmo always uses it shallow or step of field F2 to be able to give you those beautiful blurry backgrounds I don't really need that in here at the moment I'm not desperately trying to isolate myself from the background and I'm using artificial lights in here to light me the other cool thing about this though is it's a black mist filter as well so you get that cool black mist look as well as being a variable neutral density filter so what that does to your image is you get this soft glow called the bloom around all of your lights or the highlights in the image and you get this overall sort of softening of the image which people liken to being more filmic and therefore more cinematic it's really useful when you're Outdoors filming I wouldn't use that one so much indoors and then this one here it's so exciting the anamorphic lens so if you don't know what an anamorphic lens is it's basically the kind of lens that so many films have being filmed on anytime you think of a beautiful incredibly wide Scenic shots beautiful wide cinematic shots with these streaky uh with these streaky flares on lights that streak across the camera this is what's creating them the anamorphic lens if I whack it on here right now to much wider image and knows there's black bars at the top and the bottom of the picture a lot of people will just add black bars to their footage and they either don't know or don't care that that's not actually how an anamorphic lens works and it was designed as a way to get really really wide fields of view without actually having to change your camera or have a special camera to capture that so what it does is it takes uh a standard frame which is like the digital sensor on your camera or the piece of film in Old film cameras and it squishes a much larger field of view into that standard view so when you actually get your footage back from one of these anamorphic lenses something that's being shot on it it's actually all squished and you look really skinny I'll show you that right now right here so here I am really skinny and then in the editing process it stretches things out and you get this really nice field of view so you do need to know how to edit and desqueeze it as they call it now as well as that's the really nice field of view the other thing it does because the image is being stretched is that they are the highlights and the sort of the the Shine from different lights I don't know if it's going to do it with this light source here CU I don't think it's going to be bright enough actually flares in unique and interesting ways so you get these sort of streaks which streak across IM images some people love them some people hate them a lot of Cheaper lenses like this one here are normally tuned so they're quite heavy cuz people really like that and think of it as an anamorphic look and that stuff isn't to everybody's tastes but what it allows you to do is do this sort of incredibly wide what people call cinematic field of view which looks really awesome I think and for me really immerses me in something it tells me that a story is about to begin so I set out for a day of testing around London I did some daylight stuff and some nighttime stuff I decided to just capture some static Street Scenes and see how the osmo pocket 3 with an anamorphic lens handles that I know it's got an F2 aperture um so it not it's not necessarily fantastic for massive depth of field so I just focused on the distance to see uh what I could capture with it and to be honest I think it did a pretty good job is this the lens I'd use for that normally absolutely not but I wanted to test this in an environment where you might not normally use it and see how it went and I really like the results for the osmo pocket 3 um I took it out at night as well and uh it was pretty decent but I think some of the blue flares are pretty full on as well let me know what you think seeing some of the blue flares tonight which is nice on the lights like that light up there there's one across the [Music] sky didn't really see this with sort of brighter lights in more daytime [Music] you're interested to see those brake lights up close on a bigger screen see what they're doing on the little screen I can't see much of a flare on the red ones even up close oh there's a little bit okay now I do see that the other thing to note just because you can probably tell I've color corrected this and stuff it's not just straight out of camera and it's not the standard DJI lot I used the Phantom Lots made by guy called Joel familaro and um I love them they're really cool I Ed them for my a74 um I used them for my osmo pocket 3 as well he makes them specifically for all the different types of cameras and tries to match them to his AR cameras which I think is incredibly cool so definitely recommend those her link is below for those as well as along with all the other stuff that I mentioned this is a cool station I might com in for a cooler shot here we go because it's so nice and wide I keep forgetting keep thinking of the osmo standard uh that car actually could be cool silhouette let's have a look wait till it's gone and I'll keep walking there we go it's quite fun wonder how much I lose the edge of that building at the top just let this scene cuz it's got like so much contrast again got the light in the dark from the street and the service station we'll see how that looks so this got quite interesting during the edit I've come back and I'm looking at some of the stuff I shot outdoors I want to notice this it's really difficult to see on the tiny little screen of the osmo I don't know if you found it in the footage as well but I really found with those nighttime shots if I come back to those that wow that blue flare was pretty full on like it really does streak across the picture but I think those might be a little bit full on if you had like a subject on screen like a character you following or someone you were following in a like documentary sense going about their sort of daytoday well it be fine during the daytime it would be really full on if you were doing night shots I don't think this is the camera and the lens you'd be filming an entire documentary on but at the same time I'd love to be able to because it is so small it is so portable and then to be able to bring anamorphic to that as well would be really really cool even for this shot right now I'm using the anamorphic because normally when I sort of shoot at this angle at this table like to get the computer and myself in shot and have a shot that's kind of wide enough it's often just like I have to put the camera way back over there and it's really nice to be able to have the wider field of view and to be able to reach it and obviously you know I'm making a video about this lens so why not use it throughout but I think perhaps the the pitfalls that this lens bring make it um a bit too difficult to sort of handle if you haven't video edited before and you don't know what you're doing with it you can't just kind of like whack it on and immediately get good results the quirks of this particular lens it also not being a full a standard anamorphic format it's a 1.2 squeeze um and therefore desqueeze mean you have to do a lot of stuff manually so if you look at the phone apps that are available that will do a desqueeze for you on your phone I use my iPhone none of them seem to do 1.2 they all start at what is more standard for an anamorphic lens which is 1.33 and the ones that I use at least don't allow you to do sort of custom D squeezes maybe it's a paid feature and stuff I don't know I haven't spent too much time diving into the world of apps because I just edit stuff on I'm using Final Cut Pro right now on my computer um and I can do whatever I want I can desqueeze whatever I want but for beginners using a phone trying to get the easiest possible results I think it will be quite difficult one of the other interesting things in the packaging and all the information and on their website as well knf concept don't give you any instructions which again for me I don't care I know how to do this stuff but for anyone just buying this thing who hadn't used an anamorphic before that could actually really be a problem they would have no clue how to desqueeze and not make themselves look like a I don't know a slightly weird banana shape um on the screen like a squashed head that curves slightly at the edges if you're too far if I just lean back and do like the undes squeezed image for a second like I've kind of got a curve to my head at the edge of the shot because it does have this sort of this slight fisheye effect so I thought that was a kind of interesting thing to look at anyway so look it's a cool lens I really like it I'm enjoying the freedom of having anamorphic on this tiny little package look you know for like a $40 $50 lens you can't really complain too much I mean you can if you want to um but it's a little bit unfair to expect perfect cinematic Fidelity from it but it's just one of those sort of interesting little quirks if you're using a little bit of Kit like this you're not going to be able to get perfect results perhaps kind of like out of camera which you don't really do anyway with an anamorphic lens um it would be really cool if they put anamorphic d sque in the osmo pocket 3 I don't know if that's a feature that they're going to put in there on like a sub 1,000 or $1,000 camera um which already does a whole lot of stuff which would be cool if they did I'd love to see that so this is all gear that can upgrade the image of the osmo pocket 3 or at least make it more interesting and give it character and do different things I mean would I use it for a professional shoe well maybe sometimes in some certain circumstances I can imagine the anamorphic lens on the osmo pocket three maybe complementing anamorphic lenses on larger cameras in a documentary situation where you really need to get into tight spaces or follow someone around in day-to-day life and don't want a large intrusive camera in fact I think that could be really cool and I really want to try that and I have a documentary project coming up where I think it could be really handy where the subject isn't that enthralled with being on camera and doesn't like having large cameras pointed at it so maybe that could be a really interesting thing to try out giving myself ideas as I record how cool um but all of these tools are incredibly cool and can really help the osmo pocket 3 sort of become more than it is become so much more than just a little pocket size vlogging camera so it's really exciting the stuff you can achieve with a few accessories that you know as I said at the beginning under $100 and under1 um I'll put all the links to all of these in the description below they're going to be affiliate links if
